SIMON LAURIE RGI RSW
Last year’s Lemond Gallery Simon Laurie show was a NEAR SELLOUT !
Simon (b.1964) studied at GSA BA Hons (1982-87) and thereafter a Post Graduate Diploma (1987-88).
APPRECIATING SIMON'S PAINTINGS -
When you stand in front of a Simon Laurie, your mind bathes in the modernity. The fact that each painting is stripped of all of the traditional art references (recognisable objects and perspective) and we are left with a beautifully balanced and simplified (super-abstracted) construct of positive colours, shapes, form and textures.
You can take enormous pleasure from the light conversation with my instincts.
This is extreme artistic skill.
To some it will appear to be the opposite, but within the knowledgeable field of art this is a brave line - the purest form of art.
The artist shuns and risks his commerciality to position his work in the modern (where all of the most advanced art centres in the world already sit).
Now is the time to join the advanced appreciation club and BUY and ENJOY your journey into abstraction with Simon Laurie.

CECILIA CARDIFF
Cardiff (b.1966) studied art at Cardonald College (1983-85) and thereafter illustration and graphic design at Richmond on Thames College (1985-87).
Much of the research and painting preparation for this show was achieved in Majorca (Puerto Pollensa). Hence the brightness, café life and the (holiday-type) focus on relaxing and having fun.
APPRECIATING CECILIA'S PAINTINGS -
She successfully makes the difficult area of figurative (figure-based) art fun and entertaining.
She uses symbols that we associate with times of pleasure such as fruit, cocktails, spirits, wine or a beer and waiters or waitresses.
Sociable places that we enjoy and relax in having conversations or just taking in the world.
The combination of her character and technical brilliance (choice of colour palette, compositional ability, the softness of her lines and expressive brushstrokes) sits perfectly with the modern market and modern-day thinkers.
Do not underestimate the amount of pre-thought and construction that goes into achieving the right level of theatre for each of her paintings.
Cecilia Cardiff has now emerged as one of the major forces in the Scottish contemporary art market.
