BIOGRAPHY
Jack Morrocco (b.1953) is a contemporary (modern) impressionist painter.
He studied at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee (1970-1974) under the tutelage of his uncle Alberto Morrocco OBE FRSA FRSE RSW RP RGI LLD (1917-1998), David McClure RSA RSW (1926-1998) and Jack Knox RSA RSW RGI HFRIAS DLITT (1936-2015). This was the DA (Diploma) period when the art training was delivered by Scotland's senior artists of the period and was based on a classical approach, which was both broad-based and technically rigorous. The focus of teaching was on the development of drawing and painting skills and, as a student, Jack was expected to master each discipline including life drawing, landscape painting, portraiture, still life, graphic design, illustration, textiles and photography.
His remarkable success suggests that he is one of the last great painters of this period who can competently paint with ease across multiple painting genres including landscape/cityscape, classical still life, figure-based and his modern studio (imaginative) still life.
Morrocco is a virtuoso, perfectionist. He communicates his desired moment of observation using classically developed impressionist techniques with blocks of colour, shading and light to represent his scene. His lines are always interesting, which combine with his use of a confident, rich palette, contrasts, textures and perspectives that are designed to lead and stimulate the viewer's eye. Lesser artists will avoid figures in their compositions; however, a sign of Morrocco’s great skill is that he is not afraid to include his anatomically perfect figures to suggest movement and to create an authentic (rather than contrived) representation of the scenes that he chooses to depict.
Skills that set the Master apart from many of his peers.
Morrocco has worked harder than most to establish his artistic acclaim - he is undoubtedly one of the finest painters of our generation.
