BIOGRAPHY

Born in Dumfries in 1975, Alison McWhirter completed a one -year foundation course at the Cumbria College of Art and Design in Carlisle in 1994, before continuing her training as a painter at the prestigious Bath Spa Academy (formerly Bath Academy of Art) from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honours in Fine Arts in 1998. In 2000, Alison was awarded an MFA in Visual Culture by Bath Spa University.

Alison paints in a style somewhere between depiction and abstraction – "between what is observed and what is imagined, what is seen and what is felt". The dominant colours are often transferred directly from the tube to the canvas, then smeared and swirled at will across the surface.

Alison has exhibited globally in Scotland, London, New York, Hong Kong and Singapore.
